My Handsome Boy

We adopted Bagheera from Petsmart (or was it Petcetera?) about 8 or 9 years ago. Initially I was against choosing him... I wanted a fluffy white cat named Marshmallow that was also up for adoption. But, my mom and brother wanted this scrawny black kitten that climbed up people like a spider monkey, so I was outvoted. Which, in retrospect, is good, because Bagheera was meant to be a part of our family. He is so beautiful, black and sleek but with fur that turns almost russet in the light. He loves to talk, and will walk around our apartment meowing to himself or whoever will listen, and its then that I really wish I could speak feline. He's affectionate, but he won't let us really cuddle him, and he won't let us hold him unless we drape him over our shoulder like a baby that needs to be burped.

Bagheera is such an independent spirit, and not a lap cat at all, but there are moments when he stops in his travels to rub against my leg, or nuzzle my ear, or kiss me with his whiskers, and then I melt completely. And, I forgive him for eating half a roll of purple easter ribbon and regurgitating it, along with the other contents of his stomach, on the carpet.
